In honor of my sister's baby shower this weekend, I am doing a post on how I made my own diaper cake! I originally wanted to purchase a diaper cake because I have seen them at showers and not only are they super cute but also functional because she can use the diapers and supplies! However, after seeing the price I felt a DIY project was more affordable and more fun! I saw these online for anywhere from $70-$150 but my mom and I spent $30 and it took about 30 minutes. See the step by step process below.
Supplies:
75-100 diapers
One large stuffed animal (we used Sara's childhood giraffe, Jeffrey)
5-7 various baby supplies like diaper creme, socks, lotion, wipes, ect
One roll of cute ribbon
tape
scissors
18 hands (ok, we only had four between the two of us and we survived)
One roll of cute ribbon
tape
scissors
18 hands (ok, we only had four between the two of us and we survived)
Step 1: roll diapers. We placed the rolled ones in a large bowl to keep them rolled up as we were working. We need more hands but dealt with it!
Step 2: first layer. Use a package of baby wipes to fill space if desired and arrange diapers in a circle. This first layer is on a glass platter.
Step 3: Tie a cute ribbon around the bunch and staple, then cut
Step 4: Create a second layer in the same way, making it a little smaller
Step 5: Repeat step 3
Step 6: repeat steps 4 & 5 to make a third layer
Step 7: Add a 4th layer if you'd like!
Step 8: place baby supplies in the diaper cake
Step 8 continued: place the supplies within the ribbon or use tape to secure tightly. We used ribbon to tie Jeffery's head and leg to the ribbon that is around the diapers.
The finished product! Mom and I are proud of our creation.
I can't wait for the shower this weekend! I am hosting it at my apartment. Tonight I am making cake pops and we are getting ice cream cupcakes from Cold Stone. Mom is making lots of yummy appetizers and we are playing 3 fun games! I ordered prints of Sara's baby bump pictures and am going to have them on a photo board as part of the decor. I'm so excited! I feel like as her only sister this is the one thing I meant to do, is host her baby shower. Well, besides being her maid of honor:)
Any last minute baby shower advice for me?

SO cool! I've somehow never even been to a baby shower. I think they're a lot more common in America than elsewhere. This diaper cake looks amazing!
