There is one important weekend in August that I usually plan my life around. Hood to Coast is always the last weekend in August. I have run this race many times and it's safe to say I'm addicted. As a runner, I always pray that my friends will plan around this weekend too. This year it did not happen. My good friend Liz decided to have her wedding on Friday night of Hood to Coast weekend! Initially I actually questioned if I would attend her wedding----that is how dedicated to this race I am! But then I realized I could not miss the wedding, I need to put my friends before my running! I can't believe her wedding is already here. If you missed it, you can read about her fun and fancy bridal shower and her bachelorette party.
My mom's birthday is also on this weekend, but she is always understanding and plans her small festivities around this relay. However, she is turning 60 this year and we are throwing a big party! SO--two life events, a wedding and a 60th birthday, mean I will miss Hood to Coast this year.
HOWEVER: I decided to volunteer for my team! Each team is required to have 3 volunteers along the race. Volunteers literally make the race happen and it couldn't be done without them. I will be up at Mt. Hood at the start line from 4:30-8:30am on Friday morning. I'm so glad I will still get to be a part of the action, but I know it is going to make me crave participating in the race!
Here is a photo of me running in Hood to Coast two years ago. I think I was asking the van to give me something.....not sure!
Good luck to Vanessa at Gourmet Runner, who is running Hood to Coast for the first time this year! She is coming all the way from the east coast and I couldn't be more excited for her!

Thanks for the shout-out Mandee! I had such an incredible time, although it was a shame that we didn't get a chance to meet up in the end. I only saw Portland for an hour or so at the exchange!
